The Government of Hope and Afro-Arabism: A Reading in the Fundamental Attribution Error* *Captain Mohamed Hassan Al-Tahir

*🧠 Fundamental Attribution Error*

The _Fundamental Attribution Error_ refers to the human tendency to interpret others’ behavior based on their personal traits, while ignoring the external contexts and circumstances that may be the true cause of that behavior.

In political life, this error manifests when individuals or groups are blamed for failure or disorder, without considering the surrounding political, economic, or historical structures—such as the absence of effective institutions.

*🏛️ Social Solidarity and Integration*

Émile Durkheim, in his theory of the division of labor, argues that the distribution of tasks within society is not merely functional, but a reflection of _social solidarity and integration_.

In Sudan, where ethnic and cultural diversity abounds, the absence of fair labor organization leads to social fragmentation and fuels the Fundamental Attribution Error. Certain groups are viewed as “unproductive” or “unintegrated,” rather than acknowledging the lack of structural organization that ensures equal opportunity.

*🌍 Afro-Arabism: A Borderless Identity*

Afro-Arabism is not merely a cultural classification, but an _intellectual framework_ that seeks to interpret identity as a complex construct that transcends traditional divisions between Arabness and Africanness.

In Sudan, this identity is vividly expressed:

– In a language that blends Arabic with African dialects

– In a religion infused with local spirituality

– In a culture that oscillates between authenticity and modernization

*🏛️ The Government of Hope: A Psychological and Social Structure*

In contrast to traditional governments that organize power, the _Government of Hope_ can be imagined as a psychological and social structure that grants individuals a sense of belonging, the ability to dream, and the opportunity to participate in shaping the future.

*⛰️ The Point of Hope: Between Appointment and Disappointment*

Hope is not merely a feeling—it is a _point of balance_ between:

– *Appointment*: empowerment and opportunity

– *Disappointment*: exclusion and loss of trust

In Sudan, the point of hope represents a pivotal moment:

Will the citizen be granted a chance to participate, or be prematurely judged as a failure?

The Fundamental Attribution Error tends to favor disappointment, while the Government of Hope—guided by goodwill—seeks to tip the scale toward appointment.

One of the core values built at the point of hope is:

> *Transparency and honesty*, as essential pillars for building trust between citizen and state, and between individual and society.

> When circumstances are acknowledged, contexts understood, and individuals granted their right to expression and participation, transparency is achieved, and hope is redistributed fairly.

*🧠 Conclusion: Toward a New Understanding of Sudan Through Afro-Arabism*

Sudan is not merely a country in Africa or part of the Arab world—it is an Afro-Arab space rich in complexity and diversity.

To understand it, we must move beyond the Fundamental Attribution Error, recognize its composite identity, organize labor in ways that reflect solidarity, and distribute hope as a psychological and social value.

Only then can the Government of Hope be realized, the balance between appointment and disappointment be restored, and transparency and honesty reclaimed as foundational values for Sudan’s future.
