Prudent Politics Between the Mentality of Greed and the Practice of Delayed Gratification Captain Mohamed Hassan Al-Tahir

Prudent politics is not merely slogans or speeches; it is a balanced mindset that regulates immediate desires and directs them toward long-term goals.

In this context, two concepts emerge:

– Delayed gratification as one of the most important tools of political prudence,

– Versus the mentality of greed, which reflects intellectual deficiency and immersion in quick gains.

Delayed gratification is the ability to resist the desire for immediate rewards or pleasures in order to achieve greater and more sustainable goals in the future.

In psychology, this behavior is considered an indicator of:

– Mental maturity and the ability to plan long-term.

In politics, it represents the foundation for:

– Building long-term stability and avoiding the pitfalls of narrow interests.

The relationship between prudence and delayed gratification:

Political prudence means making rational decisions that consider the public interest and balance between present and future.

Prudence cannot be achieved without practicing delayed gratification, because the prudent politician realizes:

– That sacrificing part of immediate gains may be the only path to achieving lasting political, economic, and social stability.

Meanwhile, the mentality of greed reflects a deficiency in thinking, as the mind focuses on quick gains without considering long-term consequences.

This mentality leads to:

– Conflicts of interest among political forces.

– Resource depletion in pursuit of short-term gains.

– Loss of trust between citizens and the state.

The mind between the childhood of greed and the maturity of delayed gratification:

The political mind can be likened to:

– A child chasing after candy,

– Versus a mature mind that understands waiting brings a more complete and beneficial meal.

The childhood of greed is a stage of immersion in narrow interests, while in contrast:

The maturity of delayed gratification is the transition to strategic thinking that balances present and future.

Sudan today is experiencing a complex political crisis, manifested in the struggle of forces for power and the prioritization of immediate interests over national interest.

This reality reflects the dominance of the mentality of greed in the political scene, where quick gains are prioritized at the expense of comprehensive stability.

Had political forces adopted the principle of delayed gratification, it would have been possible to build national consensus that lays the foundation for lasting peace and sustainable development.

Political prudence in Sudan requires a shift from the mentality of greed to the mentality of maturity, where public interest is prioritized over individual or factional interests. Only then can the missing prudence be achieved.

So, can we truly accomplish this?

Conclusion

Prudent politics is the art of balancing present and future, and it can only be realized through the practice of delayed gratification. Sudan, like many nations, needs a mature political mind that transcends the childhood of greed and establishes a new stage of prudence, where decisions are built on long-term vision rather than immediate desires.
