When Will Sudan Become the World’s Food Basket?* Captain Mohamed Hassan Al-Tahir

_Date: August 31, 2025_

In the heart of Africa, along the banks of the mighty Nile, Sudan stands as a promising land—rich in natural resources and poised to become the “food basket of the world.” But this dream cannot be realized through slogans alone; it requires a deep understanding of the data, a deconstruction of concepts, and a strategic vision that connects heritage, economy, and sustainable development.

*🧺 The Difference Between Salla (Basket) and Thulla (Group)*

– *Salla (Basket)*: Symbolizes a container that gathers abundance. It’s an economic metaphor referring to a country’s ability to produce and export food in large quantities, becoming a global source of nourishment.

– *Thulla (Group)*: Refers to a collective or faction, often used in social or religious contexts. As mentioned in the interpretation of Surah Al-Waqi’ah: _“A group from the former generations and a group from the later ones”_, where “a group from the later ones” is interpreted to include camel herders from Sudan—symbolizing Sudan’s future role in the revival of the nation.

*🌾 What Does “Food Basket of the World” Mean?*

It’s a term used to describe countries that possess:

– Vast and fertile agricultural lands

– Renewable water resources

– Diverse climates suitable for growing various crops

– Infrastructure that supports production and export

Sudan has all these elements, yet it hasn’t become the world’s food basket due to challenges in governance, infrastructure, and political stability.

*📏 Thulla (group) in the Context of Standards and Specifications*

If we consider _Thulla_ as a symbol of people, then realizing Sudan’s agricultural dream requires:

– A *group of farmers* trained in modern agricultural techniques

– A *group of engineers* who set standards and specifications to ensure product quality

– A *group of economists* who connect production to global markets

In other words, fertile land alone is not enough—the _Thulla_ managing it must be qualified and interconnected.

*📊 Salla ( basket) Between GDP and SDG :

For Sudan to become the world’s food basket, agriculture must reflect in:

– *Gross Domestic Product (GDP)*: By increasing the agricultural sector’s contribution to the national economy

– *Sustainable Development*: Through agricultural practices that preserve the environment, create jobs, and ensure food security

According to sustainable development principles, agriculture is not just about production—it’s an integrated system that includes education, health, energy, and water¹.

*🌍 When Will the Dream Be Realized?*

It will come true when:

– Agricultural lands are scientifically invested

– Modern irrigation networks are built, relying on the Nile and groundwater

– Infrastructure for transport, storage, and export is established

– Policies are enacted to encourage local and foreign investment

– Public-private partnerships are activated

✨ Conclusion*

Sudan is not lacking in resources—it needs a _Thulla_ of leaders, thinkers, and farmers who believe that land is not just soil, but a future. When the economic _Salla_ aligns with the human _Thulla_, Sudan will truly become the world’s food basket.
