Politics: Civic Virtue and Moral Responsibility*
Captain Mohammed Hassan Al-Tahir_
_Date: November 6, 2025_
In a world where politics grows increasingly complex and becomes synonymous with partisan conflicts and narrow interests, a unique personal definition emerges—one that restores politics to its original meaning and grants it a profound ethical and human dimension.
This definition does not stem from political science textbooks or university lecture halls, but from an honest personal experience that sees politics as a mirror of social behavior rooted in honesty, consistency, and integrity.
🔹 _Politics as a Mirror of Personal Ethics_
In this personal dictionary, politics is not a game of power or a tool of influence, but a daily practice of truthfulness and reliability in dealing with others.
It is an internal commitment to be:
– Consistent with oneself,
– Honest in speech,
– And faithful in actions.
This understanding redefines politics:
– From being an institution to being a virtue,
– From being a conflict to being harmony.
🔹 _From Bureaucracy to the Art of Communal Living_
This perspective takes us back to the roots of political philosophy as understood by ancient sages.
Confucius, for example, did not see politics merely in laws, but in the ethics of the ruler and the behavior of the citizen.
Early Stoics considered politics an art of living rightly within society, not just the management of public affairs.
In this context, the daily behavior of the individual—in their home, workplace, and community—is their true political expression.
🔹 _Civic Virtue and Moral Responsibility_
Even if this definition is not based on formal academic study, it carries a deep philosophical stance that aligns with the values of civic virtue.
– Citizenship is not only a right, but a moral responsibility.
– Politics, in this view, is not a profession, but a human commitment to be honest, just, and sincere in our interactions with others.
🔹 _Does This Vision Affect Reality?_
This leads us to ask:
– Does this personal definition of politics influence how we interact with others?
– Can it serve as an internal compass guiding our daily lives?
The answer lies in the individual’s ability to transform values into actions, and to make personal integrity the foundation of every relationship and every stance.
Then, politics becomes not only what happens in parliament, but what happens in the heart of every human being.
In a time when meanings have been lost, this personal definition of politics may be what we need to reclaim our humanity and build societies that are more truthful and just.
So, dear reader, do you agree with this personal definition—one by which you may define yourself as a political being?
And finally, as long as the bark remains, so does affection. You have all my respect and goodwill.
