People of Insight and the Ethics of Politics Between Piety and Divorce* _Captain Mohammed Hassan Al-Tahir

In the world of politics—
– where values intersect with interests,
– and principles clash with desires—
emerges the group known in the Qur’an as _“Ulu al-Albab”_ (People of Insight); those whom God has endowed with penetrating vision, sound judgment, and conscious hearts.
They are called to play a role in politics, a field of decision-making and societal guidance, governed by the standard of piety (taqwa).
Indeed, piety is the compass that guides the People of Insight in this domain—even in the most intricate matters of life, such as marriage and divorce.
*🌿 Piety: The Essence of the Relationship with God*
At its core, piety is a constant awareness of God’s presence and a conscious reverence that bears fruit in obedience—both in private and public. As the Qur’an states:
*“And whoever fears Allah—He will make for him a way out and provide for him from where he does not expect.”*
Thus, piety is not merely a feeling of the heart, but a practical behavior reflected in decisions and actions—whether in politics, family, or society.
*🧠 The Qur’anic Elite*
_Ulu al-Albab_ are those who use their intellect not only for abstract analysis but for deep reflection on God’s signs and the connection between revelation and reality. As the Qur’an says:
*“So fear Allah, O you of understanding who have believed—Allah has sent down to you a reminder.”*
They are the ones addressed by the divine message, entrusted with the responsibility of understanding and applying it.
They realize that piety is not a private ritual, but a civilizational project.
*🏛️ When the Mind is Guided by Piety*
In the political realm, where interests intertwine and principles are tested, the People of Insight play a pivotal role. They are not dazzled by the glitter of power but are driven by a pious consciousness that weighs matters by God’s scale, not by personal whims. As the Qur’an says:
*“And whoever fears Allah—He will make his matters easy for him.”*
Piety opens the gates of wisdom and grants the pious leader the ability to make just decisions, even in the most difficult circumstances.
*🕋 Piety Between Divinity and Lordship*
The Qur’an links piety with belief in both God’s divinity and His lordship. In the verse:
*“So fear Allah and fear your Lord,”*
there is a clear indication that piety is not merely fear of punishment, but a reverence for God as:
– the worshipped Deity,
– and the managing Lord.
This profound understanding makes piety the foundation of every relationship:
– between man and his Lord,
– with himself,
– and with others.
*💔 Family Politics in the Light of Piety*
In Surah At-Talaq (The Divorce), also known as _“The Chapter of Relief,”_ we find a practical model of piety in the most sensitive aspects of life:
*“Retain them in kindness or part with them in kindness.”*
– Divorce is not an emotional outburst, but an ethical policy.
And bring to witness two just men from among you.”*
– Transparency and justice in procedure.
– “And establish the testimony for Allah.”*
No bias or favoritism—testimony is for God alone.
The passage concludes:
– That is instructed to whoever should believe in Allah and the Last Day.”
True believers make piety the arbiter, even in moments of separation.
*🌟 Conclusion:
An Investment in the Hereafter :
Politics guided by piety is not merely worldly reform—it is an investment in the Hereafter:
*“And whatever good you put forward for yourselves—you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward.”*
Every decision made by the People of Insight with piety is a building block in a righteous society and a reward stored with God.
*🤲 A Call to Repentance and Renewal*
In conclusion, we must remember that perfection belongs to God alone, and error is part of human nature. Yet the door of repentance remains open:
*“And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”*
Piety does not mean infallibility—it means:
– hastening to repentance,
– striving for what is right,
– and returning to God in all matters.
*“And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you.”*
Thus, the greatness of the Qur’an is revealed in how it links intellect with piety, politics with conscience, and divorce with justice—crafting a refined human model that only the People of Insight can embody.
