Innate Nature  as a Tool of Resistance Why Do Elites Lie? Capt Mohammed Hassan Al-Tahir_

In the world of international politics, where interests intertwine and truths are obscured, I found myself today watching a lecture by the philosopher and linguist Noam Chomsky, director at MIT, titled:

*“Why Do Elites Lie?”*

The concept of _“fitrah”_ (innate human nature) emerges as an internal mirror that exposes the falsity of discourse and unmasks the lies of elites. It raises several profound questions:

– Is sound human nature the same for all people?

– Does it lean toward good or evil?

– And why do elites resort to lying?

These are the questions we will attempt to unpack in this article, guided by Chomsky’s deep critique of political elites.

*🌱 What Is Sound Human Nature?*

Sound human nature is the innate awareness of fundamental truths, such as distinguishing:

– Good from evil,

– Truth from falsehood,

– Justice from injustice.

It is the moral compass with which every human is born, enabling them to interact with the world with an intuitive sense of right and wrong.

But is this nature identical in all people? The answer is complex.

On one hand,

– The _foundational instinct_ is shared among humans, as affirmed by major religions and philosophies.

On the other hand,

– This nature is shaped by environment, upbringing, and culture, which causes its practical expression to vary from person to person.

– While most may agree that injustice is wrong, they differ in how they define “injustice” itself.

Otherwise, how can we explain the widespread injustice in Muslim societies?

*⚖️ Does Human Nature Lean Toward Evil?*

At its core, human nature leans toward _goodness, justice, and compassion_. This is confirmed in religious texts, such as the Quranic verse:

*“The innate nature of God upon which He created mankind.”*

However, this nature can be distorted through repetition and normalization of evil, until:

– Ugliness becomes familiar,

– Injustice becomes acceptable,

– And lying becomes necessary.

This is where the danger of elites lies: they possess the tools to shape collective consciousness. Through media, education, and politics, they can reshape society’s moral compass, making people:

– Applaud the oppressor,

– And doubt the victim.

*🧠 Why Do Elites Lie? – A Reading of Noam Chomsky*

In his book _“Who Rules the World?”_, Noam Chomsky reveals how political and media elites in the West—especially in the United States—engage in systematic lying to justify dominance, manipulate public awareness, and legitimize wars.

*Chomsky argues that lying is not a deviation but a strategic tool.* Elites lie in order to:

– *Maintain their power*: by creating imaginary enemies and exaggerating threats.

– *Conceal their true interests*: such as controlling resources or supporting authoritarian regimes.

– *Deceive the public*: by convincing them that what is done against them is actually for their benefit.

Chomsky places special blame on intellectual elites, who—rather than exposing lies—participate in justifying them, dressing them in the garb of rationality and legitimacy.

*🧭 Fitrah as the Last Line of Defense*

In the face of such deception, sound human nature remains the final stronghold. When a person reconnects with their inner voice and listens to the call of innate truth, they can distinguish:

– Lies from truth,

– And justice from tyranny.

*Fitrah needs no proof—only honesty with oneself.*

And if elites lie to survive, then when people awaken to their fitrah, they tear off the masks and rewrite history.

Conclusion :

“Fitrah of God” is not merely a religious concept. It is a call to return to our origin, to our primal purity, to the compass that never errs.

*So the question remains: Are we still living by our fitrah?*
