Diplomatic Imprint (The Tongue as a Mirror of Consciousness and Destiny) Captain Mohammed Hassan Al-Tahir

Date: September 18, 2025*

In his Qur’anic commentary, Ibn Kathir states: _“A person is hidden beneath his tongue.”_ This phrase encapsulates an entire philosophy about human nature, perception, and awareness. The tongue is not merely a tool for speech—it is a window through which the self reveals itself to the world, exposing its true essence. In an era where images and perceptions overlap, and local and global judgments intertwine, expression becomes a diplomatic act—not just linguistic, but epistemological and existential.

*🧠 The Tongue as an Extension of Brain State*

Speech is not a mechanical act; it is the product of a *complex neurological state* that includes:

– *Consciousness*: What we know and feel

– *Imagery*: How we internally perceive things

– *Judgment*: How we evaluate and classify them

When a person speaks, they are not merely transmitting words—they are translating their mental state into vocal symbols. Thus, the tongue reveals levels of thought, degrees of awareness, and modes of perception. Just as _judging something is part of perceiving it_, expressing it is an implicit declaration of our intellectual and moral position.

*🖼️ Imagery and Perception: How Awareness Is Built*

Awareness is not formed in a vacuum; it emerges through:

– The mental images we construct about things

– Our recognition and interaction with those images

When we speak, we project these internal images onto reality, giving them linguistic form. Therefore, expression is the process of transforming *internal perception into external imagery*, which can then be judged, understood, and used to build relationships.

*⚖️ The Diplomacy of Expression*

The prophetic saying: _“Let him speak good or remain silent”_ is not merely a moral directive—it is a golden rule in the *diplomacy of expression*.

– Silence is not weakness; it is awareness of the unreadiness of internal imagery for display.

– Speech is not mere interaction; it is an epistemic and ethical responsibility.

In this context, the tongue becomes a tool for *self-appraisal*, not just a means of communication.

*🌍 Local and Global Thinking*

In the age of globalization, judgments oscillate between:

– *Local*: Cultural and social contexts

– *Global*: Universal and humanistic standards

When a person speaks, they position themselves between these poles. Are they speaking from a narrow local lens? Or from a broad global awareness?

This is where the *anatomy of judgment* unfolds:

– How do we form our opinions?

– What imagery do we rely on?

– How expansive is our awareness?

*✨ Conclusion: Speak So I May See You*

Ultimately, expression is not just speech—it is an *existential act that reveals the self*.

Through the tongue, we are seen, understood, and judged. Through silence, we honor the boundaries of our awareness.

So if you wish to be seen as you truly are, *speak with awareness, with clear imagery, and with balanced judgment*.

And if you are not ready—then silence speaks louder than words.
